Electronic File Preparation Guide

We have prepared the following guide to assist you with your electronic file preparation and submission. If you have a specific issue not covered here, feel free to contact us. Improperly prepared files can cause manufacturing delays.

Quick Checklist

  • All fonts are included.
    • ► Type is legible and crisp.
    • ► Page layout is correct.
    • ► Margins are set.
    • ► Artwork matches the specified dimensions.
    • ► All linked files, images, and fonts are placed in separate folders.
    • ► Colors are in CMYK mode.

Bleeds

A 1/8" border must be added to any images or designs that bleed to the edge, ensuring no white border appears after trimming. Keep text at least 1/4" from the trim line to avoid accidental cropping.

Color Specifications

Print previews are not reliable for color accuracy. Factors like monitor calibration, screen resolution, and lighting can affect appearance. Many Pantone colors shift when converted to four-color process (CMYK).

For jobs using Pantone spot colors, ensure they are correctly specified and separate properly by testing separations on a laser printer.

To achieve accurate color on press, digital files must use correct color models and percentages. Ensure all colors are set to CMYK mode.

Image Resolutions

  • ► All images and photos should be 300 dpi.
  • ► Rasterized text or logos should be 1200 dpi.
  • ► Screen values should be between 133 lpi and 150 lpi.

Guidelines by Application

Below are application-specific file requirements. If you have any questions, contact our graphics department.

Adobe Photoshop

  • ► Files should be 300 dpi at 100% of final size for offset reproduction.
  • ► Save files in PDF format with embedded fonts and 133 lpi screen setting.

Digital Proofs

We provide PDF files as electronic soft proofs. These are for layout and design review only and do not guarantee color accuracy. For critical color matching, request a hard copy proof.

Scan all transparencies and line art at 100% of final size unless file size is an issue. If so, scan at 1/4 or 1/2 size.
